Attorney General Bondi Gets Subpoenaed in Epstein Probe Review

(MENAFN) The US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has formally subpoenaed Attorney General Pam Bondi to provide testimony regarding the Justice Department’s handling of the investigation into the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as stated by reports.

Committee Chairman James Comer explained that the panel is examining “the possible mismanagement of the federal government’s investigation of Mr. Jeffrey Epstein and (his associate) Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell,” as well as “the circumstances and subsequent investigations of Mr. Epstein’s death” and whether authorities complied with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

In a letter dated March 17, Comer noted that the committee is scrutinizing the events surrounding Epstein’s death, the operations of sex-trafficking networks, and whether federal officials properly handled evidence and disclosures connected to the case.

The inquiry will also evaluate the Justice Department’s actions in collecting, reviewing, and releasing materials related to Epstein and his associates, while considering potential legislative reforms. Bondi has been instructed to appear for a deposition on April 14, as stated by reports.

Epstein was discovered dead in his New York City jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Previously, in 2008, he pleaded guilty in Florida to procuring a minor for prostitution, a conviction critics have described as a “sweetheart deal.”

Victims have asserted that Epstein ran an extensive sex trafficking operation that involved members of the wealthy and political elite.
