Former-Russian MP gets paid millions of dollars by US for top secret information
The prosecutors did not specify the exact information passed but said that US agencies—cited as being revealed by the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, formerly led by Elon Musk—paid him at least $45 million.
A court in Dagestan is seeking to label Gadzhiev and his family as “extremists,” nationalize his businesses, and confiscate his assets. Russian authorities have also accused him of supporting Kiev and “discrediting” Russia’s armed forces, alleging he offered help to Ukraine’s backers while abroad.
Gadzhiev was designated a foreign agent by Russia’s Justice Ministry in May 2023, expelled from the United Russia party, and added to a wanted list in 2024. Dagestan head Sergey Melikov called him a “coward and a traitor,” claiming Gadzhiev sought an EU passport in exchange for attacking Russia from abroad.
Before his exile, Gadzhiev held senior positions in Russia’s tax authorities and served in the State Duma from 2003 to 2021. Despite his departure, reports indicate he maintains a luxurious lifestyle, with properties in France and Miami.
