Musk denies WSJ allegation he’s abandoned political party plans

(MENAFN) Elon Musk has denied a Wall Street Journal report alleging he has abandoned his plans to launch the America Party. The paper claimed Musk told associates he would shift focus back to his businesses and avoid splitting Republican voters by pursuing a third-party initiative.

Musk, who backed Donald Trump in the 2024 election and briefly served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced his intention to form a new political faction after resigning over disagreements with Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” spending plan. The party was set to contest seats in the 2026 midterms.

On Tuesday, the WSJ reported Musk had confided to allies that he would step back, instead maintaining ties with Vice President J.D. Vance — considered a possible successor to Trump — and potentially using his resources to support a 2028 presidential bid. The report stressed Musk had not ruled out creating the party entirely.

Responding on X, Musk wrote, “nothing WSJ says should ever be thought of as true,” without addressing the specifics of the article. The billionaire has previously accused the outlet of fabricating stories, branding it “the worst newspaper in the world” and unfit even “to line a parrot cage.”

Just last month, Musk reiterated that the America Party would initially focus on Congress ahead of the 2026 midterms, though he left open the possibility of backing a presidential candidate.

Trump, for his part, has dismissed Musk’s plans, calling him a “train wreck” and insisting that third parties “never succeed” in US politics, warning such efforts would only create “disruption and chaos.”
