Kremlin Warns of Joint Nuclear Retaliation
When questioned about whether the clauses in Russia’s nuclear strategy remain active, Dmitry Peskov affirmed that the guidelines are still valid.
"The nuclear doctrine remains in force, and consequently, all its provisions apply," he reiterated, underlining that the deployment of nuclear arms would only be used as a final option to safeguard the nation's territorial integrity and independence.
Peskov also appealed to all involved sides—particularly the US—to motivate Ukraine to return to direct dialogue with Moscow.
"We urge everyone to facilitate this. In this context, the primary mediation role belongs to the US, (President Donald) Trump and his administration," he emphasized.
He acknowledged the growing chorus of criticisms aimed at Russia but expressed optimism that parallel diplomatic efforts were being made to bring Ukraine to the discussion table.
Speaking about Germany’s recent decision not to supply Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, Peskov interpreted the move as evidence that "vestiges of reason" still exist among some European leaders, even though the overall trend of weapons support continues.
"This is business. There were deliveries before that. No one stopped them. It's just a matter of who pays for them. Now some Europeans will pay for them," he added, hinting that arms transfers have become transactional, with financial responsibility shifting among different European states.
