Xi, Lavrov discuss strengthening ties between nations
(MENAFN) During a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between China and Russia, especially within multilateral organizations.
Xi underscored the need for both nations to reinforce mutual support, protect their development and security interests, and work together to lead countries of the Global South toward a more balanced and fair international order.
He stressed the importance of aligning efforts to guide the future of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), calling for deeper cooperation to enhance the organization’s strategic role and effectiveness.
Xi also conveyed his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin through Lavrov and urged the continuation of the strategic partnership based on previous agreements between the two leaders.
Highlighting the SCO’s significance, Xi noted that the group, co-founded by China and Russia, serves as a key platform for promoting peace, stability, and development across the Eurasian region.
