Trump urges Ukraine to hit heart of Russia

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly urged Ukraine to intensify attacks within Russian territory and even questioned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about targeting key Russian cities if Kyiv were provided with long-range weaponry, according to reports.

"Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow? ... Can you hit St. Petersburg, too?" Trump asked during the call on July 4, and Zelensky replied: "Absolutely. We can if you give us the weapons," a news agency reported, citing two people familiar with the conversation.

The conversation between Trump and Zelensky occurred one day after the U.S. president had a separate phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he reportedly characterized as “bad.”

As stated by reports, although it’s still unclear whether the U.S. will agree to supply the weapons in question, individuals familiar with the discussions said Trump seemed open to pursuing more forceful military strategies in an effort to pressure Moscow into peace negotiations.
