Iran Questions Ceasefire with Israel

(MENAFN) Iran expressed deep skepticism on Sunday regarding a US-backed truce between Israel and Tehran, asserting that it stands fully prepared to retaliate if aggression resumes.

“Since we are completely doubtful about the enemy honoring its commitments, including the ceasefire, we are prepared to give it a tough response in case of recurrence of an act of aggression," declared Iran’s Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi during a telephone discussion with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman.

He noted that both Israel and the United States initiated attacks against Iran while the Islamic Republic was involved in indirect nuclear discussions with Washington.

“The two regimes have shown that they do not adhere to any international rules and norms,” he continued.

“We did not initiate war, but we responded with all our power to the aggressor,” Mousavi affirmed.

A news agency also verified the conversation, stating that the two leaders talked about “bilateral relations in the defense field” and exchanged views on the most recent regional events.

Hostilities flared on June 13, initiating a 12-day confrontation when Israel carried out aerial assaults on Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian infrastructure, resulting in the deaths of no fewer than 606 people and injuring 5,332 more, as reported by Iran’s Health Ministry.

In a further intensification of the situation, the United States targeted three of Iran’s nuclear sites — Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan — with aerial bombings.
