Iran’s supreme leader accuses Trump of inflating success of US attack
“The American president exaggerated events in unusual ways, and it turned out that he needed this exaggeration,” said Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday in a message shared through his official social media account.
“Anyone who heard those words understood that beneath their surface, another truth existed. They couldn’t do anything and exaggerated to cover up and conceal the truth,” he added.
Trump previously claimed in a television interview that “we went in. We destroyed their nuclear capability, and we stopped. It was a beautiful thing. And they couldn’t have gone on much further…That was a very intense 12 days -- very, very intense.”
Tensions between Iran and Israel intensified on June 13, when Israel initiated a series of aerial attacks targeting Iranian military, civilian, and nuclear sites. Iran's Health Ministry reported that these strikes resulted in at least 606 fatalities and more than 5,300 injuries.
In response, American forces carried out airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, deepening the hostilities.
Tehran retaliated with a barrage of drones and missiles directed at Israeli territory, leading to the deaths of at least 29 individuals and injuries to over 3,400, as stated by reports from a leading academic institution in Jerusalem.
The violence was brought to an end through a ceasefire brokered by the United States, which was implemented on June 24.
