Iran condemns Trump due to ‘disrespect’

(MENAFN) Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticized US President Donald Trump for his disrespectful remarks toward Iran’s leadership, cautioning that such behavior damages any chance of restarting nuclear negotiations. In a statement on Saturday, Araghchi urged Trump to abandon his insulting tone toward Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and to stop offending millions of devoted Iranians if he truly wants a deal.

Araghchi also warned that Iran would not tolerate threats or insults and declared that if miscalculations continue, Iran would reveal its full capabilities, shattering any illusions about its strength. He added that following recent confrontations with Israel, the latter was forced to seek US protection to avoid destruction by Iranian missile strikes.

His comments responded to Trump’s claims that he spared Khamenei from a “very ugly and ignominious death” and accused the Iranian leader of dishonestly claiming victory over Israel. Trump also warned he would strike Iran again if he believed Tehran was developing nuclear weapons.

The verbal exchange comes after a 12-day conflict starting June 13, when Israel targeted Iranian nuclear and military sites, prompting Iranian retaliation. The US joined the attacks on June 22 with heavy bombers targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. Although Trump declared the sites “completely obliterated,” media reports have challenged that claim. Despite a ceasefire, Iran refuses to quickly resume talks, with the main obstacle being the US demand that Iran halt uranium enrichment—a demand Tehran rejects, insisting its nuclear program is peaceful and non-military.
