Orban Warns Ukraine in NATO Means WWIII
He also urged caution regarding Ukraine's potential admission into the European Union.
For an extended period, Budapest has resisted Brussels' strategies related to the Ukraine crisis.
This includes opposing the delivery of arms to Kyiv and the imposition of sanctions against Moscow.
Hungary has also persistently discouraged the idea of Ukraine being incorporated into either NATO or the EU.
On Saturday, Orban posted on X, declaring that Ukraine's accession to NATO “would mean war with Russia, and World War 3 the very next day.”
He further stated that the “EU’s reckless rush to admit Ukraine would pull the frontlines into the heart of Europe.”
The Hungarian leader labeled the current direction of EU policymakers as “insanity” and pledged that he would not “let them turn Europe into a battlefield.”
His message followed comments made during a Friday interview with local Hungarian media, where Orban claimed that Ukraine joining the EU would destabilize the entire bloc and seriously damage Hungary's economy.
He has previously raised alarms that inexpensive Ukrainian agricultural products could overwhelm Hungarian farmers.
Orban also argued that, as long as the conflict between Kyiv and Moscow persists, Ukraine's borders and demographic composition would remain unpredictable, thereby rendering EU membership impractical.
