Middle Corridor is to boost international transport, logistics systems
During a recent event promoting the corridor, Uraloglu emphasized its strong economic and trade benefits for the countries it touches. Known formally as the Trans-Caspian East-West Middle Corridor Initiative, the route links Turkey to the South Caucasus region, crosses the Caspian Sea into Central Asia, and extends all the way to China. This development aligns with Turkey’s broader ambition to revive the historical Silk Road, as noted by Turkish diplomatic sources.
The minister pointed out that freight transported via rail from East Asia through this corridor can currently reach the farthest parts of Europe in about 18 days. He predicted this journey time might soon be shortened to as few as 15 or even 13 days.
"That's why we are investing in this corridor with neighboring and transit countries," he stated, adding that around 2,200 kilometers of the corridor run through Turkish territory, much of which is already in use.
