Bombing Targets Military Convoy in Pakistan
No organization has yet claimed accountability for the assault, but the region has been plagued by repeated attacks and bloodshed carried out by a militant faction formerly associated with the Taliban.
The strike, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in the deaths of 13 soldiers and left 29 individuals wounded, as stated by an unidentified local source to a news agency.
Among the injured were ten military personnel and 19 civilians. A regional police officer reported that the blast caused the roofs of two nearby homes to cave in, injuring six children in the process.
This suicide attack coincides with a surge in insurgent operations throughout Pakistan.
Top-level military and governmental officials have blamed the rise in hostilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on fighters from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who are allegedly staging attacks across the border from Afghan territory.
Authorities in Kabul, however, have dismissed these accusations, denying that they are offering refuge or aid to the militants.
In an earlier incident this June, TTP extremists were responsible for the killing of a police officer in the Lakki Marwat region of the same province.
As the assailants tried to flee the scene, they were pursued by both residents and law enforcement personnel, leading to the fatal shooting of one attacker during an exchange of gunfire, according to police reports.
