Iran claims US breached nuclear treaty with airstrikes
following overnight airstrikes on three of its major nuclear facilities. Despite the attacks, Iranian officials say initial
inspections have revealed no radioactive contamination.
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) confirmed early Sunday that the U.S., in coordination with Israel,
struck nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Iranian authorities condemned the strikes as illegal and
“brutal,” criticizing what they described as global silence and a lack of response from the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA).
“This aggression occurred under the cover of international indifference and with the silence—or complicity—of the
IAEA,” the AEOI stated.
Iran’s Center for the National Nuclear Safety System reported that emergency checks at all three sites found no
radiation leaks, assuring nearby residents that there was no danger to public health.
Vowing that its nuclear program will continue, the AEOI emphasized that the industry, built through years of
sacrifice, would not be stopped by what it called “malicious conspiracies.” The organization also said Iran would
pursue legal measures in response to the strikes.
While Washington has not officially addressed the NPT violation claims, President Donald Trump confirmed the
U.S. role in the operation and warned Iran against retaliating, threatening further military action if Tehran
responds.
The joint U.S.-Israeli assault significantly escalates already tense relations in the region. The Israel Defense Forces
(IDF) stated the strikes were aimed at Iran’s missile and nuclear infrastructure.
Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are entirely peaceful and conducted under international supervision. The
IAEA has not reported any evidence indicating Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program.
As of Sunday afternoon, Iran had not launched any military retaliation, though the incident has heightened
concerns about broader instability in the region.
