Putin praises Trump efforts
Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced strong approval of US President Donald Trump on Friday, describing him as a “courageous man” and expressing a willingness to meet for direct talks aimed at advancing cooperation between Moscow and Washington.
Speaking in Minsk following a Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting, Putin acknowledged the personal and political challenges Trump faced in returning to the presidency. “I have great respect for the current US president. He went through a very difficult, complicated, and even dangerous path to return to power and to the White House – we all know that well… He’s a courageous man – that’s clear,” he said.
Putin also praised Trump’s foreign policy, particularly efforts in the Middle East and attempts to end the Ukraine conflict. “We, of course, value all of that… I believe President Trump is sincerely striving to resolve” the conflict, Putin said, noting he was not surprised by Trump’s admission that managing the war was more complex than expected. “It’s one thing to observe from the sidelines and quite another to dive into the problem.”
Commenting on the possibility of a summit, Putin expressed openness to a face-to-face encounter: “I am always open to contact, to meetings… and we would be happy to work on making that happen.” He acknowledged that Trump shared this view, emphasizing the importance of proper preparation to ensure meaningful outcomes.
Putin further stated that US-Russia ties were slowly improving. “Thanks to President Trump, relations between Russia and the US are beginning to level out, at least to some extent. Not everything has been resolved in terms of diplomatic relations, but the first steps have been taken, and we are moving forward.”
