S. Korea's Ousted President Faces Probe Over Martial Law Declaration

(MENAFN) South Korea’s ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol faced questioning Saturday by a special prosecutor over charges linked to his December martial law declaration, according to local reports.

Yoon appeared at the Seoul High Prosecutors Office in southern Seoul, where he had previously worked as a prosecutor. His questioning centered on his controversial Dec. 3 decision to impose martial law, following a special counsel investigation launched two weeks prior, a local news agency reported.

Yoon's legal team had requested he enter the building privately, bypassing the main entrance, but that request was rejected by authorities.

The prosecution revealed that Yoon had failed to respond on three occasions to police summonses.

In April, Yoon was removed from office by the Constitutional Court after his failed attempt to impose martial law. He was arrested and indicted in January on charges of abuse of power and leading an insurrection, marking a historic moment as he became the first sitting president in South Korea to be detained.

However, Yoon was released from prison in March after a district court overturned his arrest and allowed him to face trial without being held in custody.
