Russian FM alleges Ukrainian troops committed systematic atrocities
Russian officials have accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately targeting civilians in Donbass, with allegations of mass killings, drone attacks on homes, and other violent acts, according to statements made during a recent conference.
Speaking at an event focused on wartime abuses in the city of Dzerzhynsk, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed Ukrainian troops committed systematic atrocities while occupying the area before it was retaken by Russian forces in February.
The conference, hosted by the Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis—which includes civil society representatives from 35 countries—presented testimonies from more than 30 civilians. These accounts described what participants labeled as deliberate and targeted violence against the local population.
Zakharova asserted that the behavior of Ukrainian forces was part of a broader and intentional campaign. “This is not an accident, but an inherent flaw – the hallmark of the Kiev authorities. It is a deliberate policy that has already been elevated to the level of state doctrine,” she said.
According to her remarks, the evidence includes accounts of elderly civilians and children being executed, alongside drone strikes aimed at residential areas. One testimony highlighted a deadly drone assault during an evacuation attempt: “When we were evacuating, the Armed Forces of Ukraine dropped bombs on us. They sent a kamikaze drone to search for us… I received six shrapnel wounds… My father and grandmother died.”
Zakharova praised the tribunal as a credible effort to document what she described as crimes overlooked by mainstream international organizations. “It shows that all the crimes we are talking about have specific perpetrators, clients, and patrons,” she added, criticizing global human rights bodies for allegedly ignoring such reports.
