Russian soldiers return from Ukraine after prisioner exchange

(MENAFN) A number of Russian military personnel have been returned from Ukrainian-controlled territory following a prisoner exchange, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the swap was conducted under the terms agreed upon during recent bilateral negotiations held in Istanbul earlier this month. A video posted on the ministry’s Telegram channel showed the returning servicemen draped in Russian flags as they boarded buses for their journey back.

The released soldiers are currently receiving medical evaluations and psychological support in Belarus before being transferred to Russia for additional treatment and rehabilitation.

In exchange, Ukrainian prisoners of war were also returned to Kyiv, though neither Moscow nor Kiev has officially confirmed the exact number of individuals involved in the latest swap. However, a source reportedly informed that the exchange was carried out on a one-for-one basis.

This latest exchange follows a series of similar transfers since the June 2 talks in Istanbul. Prior exchanges occurred last Friday and the day before, signaling an ongoing pattern of coordinated repatriation efforts between the two sides.
