Israel, Iran announce victory

(MENAFN) Israel and Iran have both declared victory following the start of a US-brokered ceasefire that took effect on Tuesday, bringing an end to nearly two weeks of intense and unprecedented conflict between the long-time regional adversaries.

US President Donald Trump announced the truce on Monday evening, urging both nations to uphold the agreement. The conflict erupted on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes aimed at preventing Iran from advancing what it claims is a nuclear weapons program. Iran, which denies pursuing nuclear arms, condemned the strikes as acts of war and retaliated with missile and drone attacks.

On Sunday, the United States became directly involved by targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities, including major uranium enrichment sites in Natanz and Fordow. In response, Iran launched missiles at the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar the next day. American officials reported no casualties, and President Trump stated that the base sustained only minimal damage.

The escalation has derailed ongoing diplomatic efforts concerning Iran’s nuclear program. Indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington—previously revived through Omani mediation earlier this year—were suspended indefinitely by Iran after the initial Israeli attacks.

Iran’s Health Ministry reports that Israeli strikes have resulted in at least 430 deaths and over 3,500 civilian injuries. On the Israeli side, officials have confirmed 25 fatalities and more than 2,500 wounded.

Following the ceasefire, Iranian authorities announced the gradual restoration of internet access, which had been heavily restricted during the conflict. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ cyber unit stated that the curbs were necessary due to a “massive cyber offensive” by Israel, which allegedly sought to destabilize Iran’s digital infrastructure and exploit it for intelligence gathering and sabotage.

Iran’s Communications Minister Sattar Hashemi confirmed via X that communications are returning to normal as the situation stabilizes.
