OIC is to be held in Turkey to discuss Iran-Israel conflict
A special meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be held Saturday evening in Istanbul, following a formal request by Iran, amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, diplomatic sources confirmed.
The closed-door session is being organized as part of the OIC’s 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, currently taking place in the Turkish city under the theme “The OIC in a Transforming World.”
Sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry indicated that the urgent gathering will include representatives from all OIC member states and will focus on the implications of Israel’s recent military operations against Iran, as well as its ongoing offensive in Gaza.
Istanbul’s hosting of the summit has drawn international attention, positioning Türkiye at the center of diplomatic efforts during a period of heightened regional instability.
As a founding member of the OIC, Türkiye has played a key role in shaping many of the organization’s initiatives and has hosted several critical sessions over the years. This year’s gathering is expected to be among the largest in the OIC’s history, with participation from approximately 1,000 delegates, including 43 foreign ministers and five deputy ministers.
The special session is expected to explore unified responses from the Islamic world to Israel’s actions, and reinforce diplomatic coordination in the face of growing regional crises.
