“No Kings” Protests Draw Millions in Anti-Trump Show
Branded as the ‘No Kings’ rallies, the protests primarily condemned the administration’s strict stance on immigration and recent dismissals of federal workers.
Promoted as the “largest single-day mobilization” ever against the Republican leader, the gatherings occurred amid ongoing unrest in Los Angeles. That city has witnessed prolonged disturbances following a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation targeting undocumented immigrants.
In response, demonstrators have set ablaze police vehicles and American flags, obstructed major roads, and engaged in physical confrontations with police officers. Law enforcement has reacted with tear gas, rubber bullets, and mass detentions.
Numerous injuries have been reported from both protestors and authorities.
On its official site, the ‘No Kings’ campaign urged Americans to participate in a “nationwide day of defiance rejecting authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of our democracy” on Saturday.
Organizers asserted that protests took place in more than 1,500 municipalities spanning all 50 states, with notable turnouts in cities such as New York, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.
“They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services,” read a statement on the site, seemingly pointing to actions by the Trump government.
