Laos Calls for Action as Dengue Cases Soar to 1,370
According to a Wednesday update from the Lao Ministry of Health, the country has recorded 1,370 dengue cases so far this year, with no fatalities reported to date.
Vientiane, the nation’s capital, has seen the highest concentration of infections, reporting 456 cases. It is closely followed by Luang Namtha province with 159 cases and Sekong province with 153.
The health ministry emphasized the need for continuous public alertness and active participation in efforts to curb the mosquito-borne virus.
To combat dengue effectively, health authorities recommend five key preventive steps widely practiced in households: securing and sealing all unused containers, regularly flushing out water vessels, introducing small guppy fish into water jars to consume mosquito larvae, cleaning the surrounding home areas, and ensuring these four actions are completed weekly.
