Lebanon Pursues Closer Iran Ties

(MENAFN) Lebanon is actively pursuing a stronger government-to-government alliance with Iran, President Joseph Aoun announced during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday.

Local media reported that Aoun highlighted the urgent need to restore Lebanon following extensive damage inflicted by Israel. He stressed that this effort is a national priority, to be carried out alongside allied nations while strictly adhering to Lebanese legal frameworks.

Aoun reiterated Lebanon’s dedication to resolving conflicts through dialogue—both within the country and in its foreign relations.

"Many nations in our region, from Iran to the Gulf and Lebanon, have endured the devastating effects of war. Dialogue, not violence, is the way forward," Aoun stated.

He also expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, adding, "The Iranian people deserve to live in peace and prosperity, and a constructive resolution will reflect positively on the region as a whole."

Echoing Araghchi’s points, Aoun endorsed the principle that international diplomacy should be grounded in "transparency, goodwill, mutual respect, and non-interference in domestic affairs."

In response, Araghchi affirmed Iran’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations with Lebanon through shared goals and respect. He underscored Iran’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, commending Lebanon’s diplomatic efforts to end Israeli occupation.

"Our support for Lebanon is rooted in our good bilateral relations and Iran's consistent policy of non-intervention in domestic politics," Araghchi said.

He voiced strong backing for Lebanon’s national dialogue process, hoping it will foster unity and progress free from external influence. Araghchi also highlighted Iran’s readiness to boost economic and trade cooperation, mentioning that Iranian firms stand ready to assist Lebanon’s reconstruction in partnership with the Lebanese government.
