Zelensky Receives NATO Summit Invitation

(MENAFN) Ukrainian Leader Vladimir Zelensky has stated that he has been formally asked to participate in this year’s NATO summit, which is to be held in The Hague.

Although Zelensky shared this news publicly, earlier media accounts indicated that Washington might be hesitant about his involvement due to apprehensions he could be “disruptive.”

Zelensky disclosed the invitation on Monday following his attendance at meetings connected to a NATO gathering in Vilnius, Lithuania.

At the event, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte convened with leaders from Eastern and Northern Europe.

Speaking to reporters in a virtual briefing, Zelensky mentioned that Rutte had extended a formal request for him to join the summit, scheduled for June 24–25 in the Netherlands.

NATO has maintained that Ukraine’s journey toward membership is “irreversible,” a declaration that Moscow identifies as a central reason behind the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

According to a recent article in a newspaper, Zelensky’s involvement in the summit remains uncertain and could be reduced.

The report highlighted that U.S. Leader Donald Trump has shown a “dismissive” attitude toward Zelensky.

As a result, NATO representatives are reportedly worried that Zelensky’s presence might hinder rather than help a “cordial” atmosphere.

Sources told the newspaper that planners have even considered omitting a session of the NATO-Ukraine Council, a platform where “allies sit with Ukraine as equals.”
