Hungary’s Paks Nuclear Reactor Slashes Power by 160 MW
Situated roughly 100 kilometers south of Budapest, the facility has not revealed specific details regarding the cause or severity of the issue, nor has it provided a timeline for the completion of repairs.
As the country’s sole nuclear power station, Paks delivers about half of Hungary’s electricity supply.
The plant’s most significant prior incident dates back to April 2003, when a failure in the fuel cleaning mechanism led to overheating and damage to 30 fuel assemblies. This event caused the release of radioactive gases and forced the evacuation of the reactor hall.
