Ukraine, Russia Start Istanbul Direct Talks
“The Ukrainian delegation has arrived in Istanbul. The meeting is scheduled for this afternoon,” reported ministry representative Heorhii Tykhyi, according to a Ukrainian national news agency.
These discussions follow Leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy's recent authorization of Kyiv's negotiation team, once again headed by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
Umerov also led the Ukrainian side during the last meeting, which was conducted in Istanbul on May 16.
That earlier round concluded with a significant arrangement involving the mutual release of 1,000 prisoners from each party.
Based on information from Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, Monday’s dialogue is set to commence at 1 p.m. local time (1000GMT) and will be hosted at the historic Ciragan Palace in Istanbul.
