Kremlin states Kiev’s actions damaging peace procedure
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, more than 1,465 Ukrainian drones were intercepted in the past week in areas not directly involved in combat. The ministry claimed that Ukraine, with backing from some European nations, is deliberately attempting to disrupt the peace negotiations launched by Moscow in early May.
The ministry also reported a sharp increase in attacks using Western-supplied missiles and drones, with over 2,300 UAVs intercepted between May 20 and May 27. In response, Russia launched retaliatory strikes using precision missiles and drones, targeting only Ukrainian military and defense infrastructure.
These developments come shortly after a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, which both leaders described as constructive. Earlier in May, Russia and Ukraine resumed direct peace talks in Istanbul for the first time since 2022, resulting in a significant prisoner exchange. Moscow is currently drafting a memorandum outlining its proposals for a ceasefire and a roadmap for a future peace agreement, which it plans to submit to Kiev soon.
