Fatal Shooting at Ireland Shopping Centre Kills Man, Injures Child
Authorities believe the fatal injuries sustained by the man were self-inflicted. His body remains at the location, pending clearance of the scene to ensure safety before removal.
Paramedics attended to the injured girl at the site, providing treatment without the need for hospital admission. Police have not yet clarified the circumstances behind her injuries.
As a safety measure, the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been called to assist at the location.
The entire shopping centre was evacuated, with a substantial police perimeter established around the area. Emergency responders—including police, fire services, and ambulance crews—are actively managing the scene. Additionally, a helicopter was seen monitoring from above.
A police representative reassured the public by stating, "At this time, there is no further concern for public safety."
Authorities are appealing to witnesses to share any footage they might have directly with the Gardaí rather than posting it on social media or messaging platforms.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin expressed his deep shock and sorrow over the event, stating, "My thoughts are with the families affected and the local community in Carlow after what was a very serious and traumatic incident." He also stated, "I urge anyone who has information to speak to the Gardai".
