Ukraine Confirms Twelve Servicemen Died in Russian Missile Attack

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Ukraine confirmed that a Russian missile attack targeted one of its training centers, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 servicemen and injuring over 60 others.

The Land Forces of Ukraine's Armed Forces (AFU) issued a statement on Telegram revealing that Russia had fired a missile on the site of one of the training units within the AFU, though they did not specify the exact site of the strike.

The official update stated, “As of 12:50 pm (0950GMT), 12 people have been killed and over 60 injured.”

The statement emphasized, “We emphasize that no formations or mass gatherings of personnel were held,” and assured that those wounded are receiving comprehensive medical care.

Additionally, the AFU disclosed that a special commission has been formed to investigate the circumstances of the assault, signaling that an official inquiry is underway.

“If it is established that the actions or inaction of officials led to the death and injury of servicemen, the guilty will be held strictly liable,” the statement warned, noting that enhanced security protocols are being implemented to protect Ukrainian troops.

Later in the day, Mykhailo Drapatyi, the Land Forces commander, declared his resignation in response to the tragedy.

"Without personal responsibility, there is no development. Without development, there is no victory," Drapatyi wrote on Telegram.

No immediate response has come from Russian officials regarding Ukraine’s announcement.
