Russia Accuses Denmark of Hindering Peace Efforts
In an opinion piece featured in a daily newspaper on Sunday, the diplomat accused the Danish government of endorsing strategies intended to “bleed Russia dry” rather than promoting a durable and equitable resolution.
According to Barbin, Denmark has “consistently pursued” a course aimed at dragging out the hostilities for as long as possible.
He emphasized that the nation “invariably exhibits an allergic reaction to even timid hopes for peace,” indicating what he sees as an entrenched resistance in Copenhagen to any form of diplomatic progress.
Barbin specifically criticized Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen for dismissing Moscow’s recent initiative to engage in unconditional peace discussions with Kiev.
The ambassador interpreted Rasmussen’s rejection as evidence that Western governments prioritize weakening Russia through military means over fostering dialogue and resolution.
In addition, the diplomat condemned Denmark’s public doubts regarding the authenticity of Russia’s delegation at the Istanbul peace negotiations with Ukraine earlier in the month.
He argued that such skepticism further highlights Copenhagen’s reluctance to support any sincere diplomatic engagement.
