Russian Official Warns of OSCE Ignoring Nazism in Europe

(MENAFN) A high-ranking official from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Grigory Lukyantsev, has expressed grave concern about the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s (OSCE) worrying lack of attention to the re-emergence of Nazism across the continent.

He voiced these apprehensions during a gathering held at the OSCE’s main office in Vienna on Monday, where representatives from Russia and Belarus were present.

Lukyantsev, who leads the ministry's Department for Multilateral Cooperation on Human Rights, emphasized that the OSCE’s "absolute indifference" towards the resurgence of Nazi ideology in Europe is deeply troubling.

He warned that ignoring this phenomenon could have serious consequences, highlighting the disregard for “historical truth and common sense” in current developments.

He further described disturbing manifestations of this trend, mentioning “Torch marches, aggressive nationalism, glorification of Nazis and their accomplices.”

According to Lukyantsev, the widespread rise of Russophobia is part of this "criminal, unnatural tendency" that is gaining momentum across the region.

Reflecting on the historical context, Lukyantsev pointed out that the defeat of Nazism during World War II was fundamental in establishing both the 1945 United Nations Charter and the Helsinki Accords.

These agreements have since been pillars supporting “security and cooperation in Europe,” underlining the importance of combating the resurgence of extremist ideologies.
