Tesla’s European Sales Decline in April
This drop highlights growing challenges for the company in maintaining its market presence within the region.
The ACEA report detailed that billionaire Elon Musk's Tesla managed to deliver only 5,475 vehicles in April.
This represents a stark contrast compared to the 11,540 units sold in the EU during the same month in 2024, signaling a steep retreat in consumer uptake over the course of a year.
The contraction was not limited to the European Union alone. When accounting for the broader European region — which includes the European Free Trade Association and the United Kingdom — Tesla’s performance suffered a 49 percent slump.
Sales dwindled to 7,261 vehicles in April 2025, a marked decline compared to the figures from April of the previous year.
Despite Tesla’s plummeting numbers, the overall market for battery-powered vehicles in the EU experienced a notable upswing.
Sales of battery electric cars surged by 34.1 percent, reaching a total of 145,341 units, indicating strong consumer interest in zero-emission vehicles that contrasts with Tesla’s decline.
The downward trend in Tesla’s European sales appears to be linked to growing dissatisfaction with Elon Musk’s involvement in political affairs.
The CEO's controversial political stance and increased intervention in politics of Europe have reportedly contributed to a negative perception, which may be influencing buyer sentiment and trust in the brand across European markets.
