US Senate looks into who really controlled country under Biden
The inquiry follows last weekend’s announcement from Biden’s office that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. While many, including current President Donald Trump, offered sympathy, others accused Biden’s inner circle of concealing the diagnosis from the public.
Johnson told Axios that the investigation will focus on “a couple dozen people” who had regular contact with Biden during his time in office, aiming to determine who was effectively running the government.
Trump has echoed these suspicions on his Truth Social platform, alleging that harmful policies were enacted by individuals aware of Biden’s mental decline and claiming they effectively took control of presidential decisions—going so far as to accuse them of “treason.”
Biden’s health and cognitive condition had already become a contentious topic during his reelection campaign. Observers frequently cited his slow movements, memory lapses, and communication difficulties. After a widely criticized debate performance against Trump in June 2024, pressure from within the Democratic Party mounted, eventually leading Biden to withdraw from the race the following month.
