Trump vows action after 2 Israeli Embassy staff members
(MENAFN) United States Leader Donald Trump and Israel’s envoy to the United States have strongly criticized a deadly shooting that took place late Wednesday near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
The incident resulted in the deaths of two staff members from the Israeli Embassy.
Both leaders labeled the attack as a violent expression of antisemitism.
“These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA,” Trump posted on his Truth Social account.
He also expressed his sympathy to the bereaved families, describing the tragedy as “so sad.”
Speaking at a media briefing after the violence, Israeli ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, identified the victims as a young Israeli pair who were on the verge of becoming engaged.
“The young man purchased a ring this week with the intention of proposing to his girlfriend next week in Jerusalem,” Leiter stated.
He called them a “beautiful couple” who had come to enjoy a night out in one of Washington’s cultural districts.
Leiter also shared that Trump had contacted him directly via Attorney General Pam Bondi, assuring that his leadership would “do everything it can possibly do to fight and end antisemitism.”
He stressed the ongoing solidarity between the United States and Israel.
“Together we won’t be afraid. Together we’ll stand and we’re going to overcome the moral depravity of people who think they’re going to achieve political gains through murder,” he declared.
In addition, Danny Danon, Israel’s representative to the United Nations, denounced the act on the social platform X, writing: “The fatal shooting that took place outside the event that took place at the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. is a depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism.”
