Finnish President Says Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks Could Commence in Vatican
Stubb suggested that the talks might also involve representatives from the U.S. and European nations, describing the potential meeting as an encouraging development for wider international involvement in efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
"It is very probable that next week, for example at the Vatican, there will be a technical meeting involving Ukrainians, Russians, Americans, and Europeans," he stated.
He also pointed out the increasing participation of European countries in the peace process. "We are entering a phase where Europe is also involved -- and that is what we have been hoping for from the beginning," Stubb noted.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with several European leaders, including Stubb, where he provided updates on a prior conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The group also discussed ongoing negotiations, a possible ceasefire, and efforts toward a lasting peace in Ukraine.
