South Korean Military Trains Polish Soldiers
The training, which began on May 15, is taking place at a facility in Paju, located around 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) northwest of Seoul.
A total of 16 Polish soldiers, alongside South Korean trainees, are involved in the two-week program.
Poland finalized a deal in 2022 with Hanwha Aerospace Co., a major South Korean defense contractor, to purchase 218 Chunmoo multiple rocket launch systems.
Additionally, a second contract for 72 more units is set for 2024.
As part of this initiative, the South Korean army is focusing its training efforts on key aspects of the Chunmoo system, including its strike capabilities, nighttime maintenance, and other tactical functions.
South Korea intends to organize further training sessions for military personnel from other countries that have procured South Korean defense systems, such as the K9 self-propelled howitzers and K2 tanks.
In response to the security challenges posed by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022, Poland has strengthened its defense by entering into several agreements with South Korea.
These agreements include acquiring various weapon systems, such as FA-50 light attack aircraft, K2 tanks, and K9 howitzers.
