Istanbul Advances in World Congress City Rankings

(MENAFN) Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey that spans both Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait, advanced one position in the global ranking of congress cities last year.

This marked its return to the top 20 for the first time since 2015, based on data from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

As reported by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC), Istanbul hosted 86 international congresses in 2024, with participant numbers ranging from 50 to 7,300.

This increase helped the city rise in the global and European rankings of congress cities.

The number of significant congresses held in Istanbul in 2024 grew by 14 compared to the previous year, according to the ICCA data.

As a result, Istanbul secured the 15th spot in Europe and 20th in the world for congress city rankings.

Istanbul has set its sights on breaking into the top 10 in congress tourism.

It had previously reached this goal in 2015 when it held the eighth position globally.

According to the ICCA rankings, Vienna claimed the top position by hosting 154 congresses worldwide in 2024, followed by Lisbon with 153 and Singapore with 144.

Istanbul also achieved an impressive rank in the newly introduced category of "Top Eight Cities for Medical Sciences Meetings in 2024," securing eighth place.

Sekib Avdagic, the President of ICOC, stated, "Our goal is to enter the top 10 permanently and increase our added value."
