Ukrainian Gets Accused in UK Premier Arson Attacks
Earlier news reports suggested that the fires had been aimed at properties that are either currently or were previously associated with UK Premier Keir Starmer.
Police stated that “Petro Pochynok, 34… has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life.”
He was detained on Monday, making him the third person to be implicated in the case.
The suspected arson events occurred in quick succession earlier in May. On May 8, a vehicle was deliberately set on fire.
This was followed by another blaze at the entrance of a building on May 11, and a further similar occurrence at a private residence on May 12.
Although the specific individual targeted has not been officially identified, authorities noted that all three episodes “have connections with a high-profile public figure,” prompting officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command to spearhead the inquiry.
As reported by the media, the initial incident involved a Toyota Rav4 being torched in Kentish Town, a district in London.
This car was reportedly once owned by Starmer but had since been sold to a nearby resident.
