Rubio Criticizes Biden Administration

(MENAFN) U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has accused the previous administration under President Joe Biden of acting recklessly by largely ceasing diplomatic contact with Russia.

While speaking before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Rubio emphasized that Russia holds the “largest strategic weapon stockpile in the world and one of the largest [in] tactical nuclear weapons.”

Because of this significant military capacity, Rubio argued that “there has to be some level of communication between the United States and Moscow,” regardless of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Rubio criticized the Biden administration for allowing a breakdown in communication between Washington and Moscow over the course of three years, labeling it “frankly irresponsible.”

He stressed that just because the two nations speak does not necessarily imply they are “going to be allies or friendly.” Instead, dialogue is essential between major global powers, particularly to “prevent miscalculation and war.”

The secretary of state declined to label Russian Leader Vladimir Putin a war criminal, despite repeated questioning from Democratic Representative Bill Keating.

Rubio defended his position by asserting that “we can’t end the war [in Ukraine] without talking to Mr Putin.”

During an earlier interview with a reporter on a news broadcaster in March, Rubio acknowledged that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is essentially a “proxy war between nuclear powers – the United States, helping Ukraine – and Russia.”

The Russian government has consistently characterized the situation in similar terms.
