Rostec Dismisses EU Sanctions on Russia
This statement followed the European Council's announcement on Tuesday, where the bloc approved its 17th round of penalties aimed at Russian citizens and enterprises, notably including Stan—a manufacturer of machine tools affiliated with Rostec.
In a response delivered to a news agency, Rostec commented that Western powers “just can’t stop trying” to damage Russia’s industrial base.
The company emphasized that while Russia may hold the record for the highest number of sanctions imposed, the European Union leads in what it termed ineffective actions. According to the conglomerate, these punitive steps “would achieve nothing.”
Since the escalation of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, Western nations have implemented extensive economic sanctions on Russia.
These actions have included embargoes on seaborne Russian oil, curbs on banking operations, and the freezing of roughly USD300 billion in overseas assets.
Moscow has consistently criticized the sanctions, labeling them both unlawful and pointless.
President Vladimir Putin, speaking in March, stated that Russia had faced over 28,000 sanctions in recent years—more than those imposed on all other nations combined.
He argued that while the West aimed to undermine Russia as a global competitor, these efforts had instead reinforced the country's economic durability.
