New York, London, Paris Lead Global Cities Index

(MENAFN) According to the Global Cities Index by Oxford Economics, New York, London, and Paris emerged as the leading urban centers globally.

The ranking assessed 1,000 major cities across various metrics, placing these three at the top based on overall performance.

The index evaluates cities using 27 different criteria within five broad categories: economy, human capital, living standards, environmental sustainability, and governance.

This comprehensive analysis spans 163 nations, reflecting the diverse attributes that contribute to a city's global standing.

These metropolitan areas represent a significant portion of the world’s economic and demographic weight, contributing to 60 percent of global economic output and accommodating one-third of the planet’s residents.

New York City led the ranking, driven by its USD2.5 trillion economy and a population exceeding 20 million. Scoring a perfect 100 across the index’s dimensions, it was trailed by London, which boasts a USD1 trillion economy.

These two cities maintained their top positions for the second consecutive year.

In terms of metropolitan economies, New York ranked first globally, while London secured the fourth position.

Both cities are also recognized for hosting numerous higher education institutions and corporate offices, reinforcing their roles as economic and academic hubs.

Paris secured third place, followed by two American cities—San Jose in California and Seattle in Washington.

These cities performed strongly in the economic category, although their human capital ratings were slightly below those of New York and London.

Nonetheless, Paris, San Jose, and Seattle outshone New York and London in the quality of life dimension.

Paris distinguished itself through its globally celebrated cultural landmarks and high average life expectancy.

Meanwhile, San Jose and Seattle ranked among the urban centers with the highest income levels worldwide.
