Report Shows AI is Transforming Jobs, Not Replacing Them
According to the research, positions that are clerical in nature and those requiring a high level of digital interaction are the most at risk of being affected.
The report, titled "Generative AI and Jobs: A Refined Global Index of Occupational Exposure," is described by its authors as the most in-depth international analysis so far regarding how GenAI could alter employment landscapes.
Rather than suggesting widespread job elimination, the document emphasizes that the integration of AI into the workplace is more likely to restructure roles than to eliminate them entirely.
"We went beyond theory to build a tool grounded in real-world jobs," stated Pawel Gmyrek, an ILO senior researcher and the principal author of the study.
"By combining human insight, expert review, and generative AI models, we’ve created a replicable method that helps countries assess risk and respond with precision."
This statement highlights the practical and comprehensive nature of the methodology used to evaluate the impact of AI on employment.
The analysis indicates that around 25 percent of jobs globally are exposed to GenAI.
However, this rate is significantly higher in wealthier nations, where digital technologies are more deeply embedded in daily work—reaching up to 34 percent.
Administrative occupations are the most affected, as GenAI has the potential to perform a broad spectrum of routine office tasks.
Additionally, professions in areas such as media, software engineering, and financial services are also heavily impacted due to their reliance on cognitive and digital skills.
