Moscow states it won’t be pressured over Ukraine one month deal
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told CNN on Saturday that Russia had already declared a three-day ceasefire earlier in the week, which was met with no response from Kyiv. “Putin announced a three-day ceasefire just a few days ago,” Peskov noted. “Did Kyiv react? No. Was there any criticism of their lack of response? No.”
On Saturday, leaders from the UK, France, Germany, and Poland met with Zelensky in Kyiv, with virtual participation from over 30 countries. Following the talks, Zelensky called for an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire starting on May 12 for a duration of at least 30 days. He also warned that failure to secure the truce would result in stronger sanctions on Russia’s energy and banking sectors.
Peskov stated that Moscow was still reviewing the situation and reiterated that Russia has its own stance. He also criticized what he viewed as an increasingly adversarial approach from Western European countries, stating, “We feel it, we know it, and we are quite used to it.”
While reaffirming Russia’s openness to dialogue, Peskov made it clear that attempts to pressure Russia would not be effective. He acknowledged the mediation efforts from the Trump administration but emphasized that any potential truce would need to include a halt to Western arms supplies to Ukraine, or else it would provide an advantage to Kyiv.
