EU Adopts 17th Package of Sanctions Against Russia
This latest round of sanctions focuses heavily on disrupting what the EU refers to as Russia’s "shadow fleet"—a network of nearly 200 vessels believed to be instrumental in helping Moscow bypass previous international trade restrictions. These ships are allegedly used to covertly transport goods, including oil, in defiance of existing embargoes.
According to Kallas, the measures are part of a broader and ongoing effort to clamp down on sanction evasion tactics employed by the Kremlin. "More sanctions on Russia are in the works," she wrote, signaling the EU’s continued commitment to escalating economic actions until Russia changes its course.
As of now, the Russian government has not issued any official response or comment regarding the newly imposed sanctions.
