Malaysia’s Exports Witness 16.4 Percent Annual Increase in April
The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) reported that shipments of manufactured products—accounting for 86.7% of total exports—grew for the seventh straight month, registering a 19% rise year-on-year to 115.82 billion ringgit.
This upward trend was primarily fueled by increased exports of E&E items, along with machinery, equipment, parts, and processed food products.
Agricultural exports also played a crucial role, with palm oil and related agricultural products contributing significantly to the export momentum.
Malaysia saw robust export performance to key trade partners, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, the United States, and the European Union.
On the broader trade front, Malaysia’s total trade volume climbed 18.2% year-on-year in April to 261.94 billion ringgit.
Imports rose by 20% to reach 128.37 billion ringgit, leading to a trade surplus of 5.19 billion ringgit for the month.
Between January and April, total trade increased by 7.2% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 977.61 billion ringgit.
