Nvidia Uncovers New Program to Boost AI Customization
Nvidia's statement clarified that NVLink Fusion will enable users and partners to combine non-Nvidia central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs) with Nvidia's products and its NVLink interconnect.
"NVLink Fusion is so that you can build semi-custom AI infrastructure, not just semi-custom chips," Huang explained at a tech conference in Taiwan. He elaborated that this program would facilitate the connection of Nvidia processors with various CPUs and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) within AI infrastructures.
"In any case, you have the benefit of using the NVLink infrastructure and the NVLink ecosystem," Huang emphasized.
Beyond this technical announcement, Huang also revealed plans to establish a new office in Taiwan. Here, Nvidia will collaborate with Foxconn, the world's largest electronics manufacturer, on an AI supercomputer project.
"We are delighted to partner with Foxconn and Taiwan to help build Taiwan’s AI infrastructure and to support TSMC and other leading companies to advance innovation in the age of AI and robotics," Huang noted.
Nvidia had already stated on Sunday that several companies, including MediaTek, Marvell, Alchip, Astera Labs, Synopsys, and Cadence, are already partners in developing AI chips for NVLink Fusion. The company also indicated that clients such as Fujitsu and Qualcomm Technologies will be able to link their own third-party CPUs with Nvidia's GPUs in AI data centers through this program.
"A tectonic shift is underway: for the first time in decades, data centers must be fundamentally rearchitected — AI is being fused into every computing platform," Huang noted in a statement, further adding, "NVLink Fusion opens Nvidia’s AI platform and rich ecosystem for partners to build specialized AI infrastructures."
