Netanyahu declares Israel will ‘take over all of Gaza’
Intensified airstrikes in the past few days have reportedly led to hundreds of deaths in Gaza. Netanyahu defended Israel's blockade of Gaza, which has been severely criticized by international observers for causing a humanitarian crisis, including the risk of famine. He claimed Hamas had been misusing humanitarian aid for its own purposes, and announced that a new system would be implemented to ensure food and medicine are distributed through designated points under Israeli control.
In a video shared on his Telegram channel, Netanyahu reiterated that Israel’s plan involved applying significant military pressure, including the complete takeover of Gaza, to isolate Hamas from its access to humanitarian aid. Although Israel agreed to ease the blockade to allow some food shipments, Netanyahu noted that the new distribution system would take several days to fully establish.
Despite these efforts, international aid organizations continue to warn of the growing risk of famine in Gaza. Palestinian health officials reported over 300 deaths, including children, in the 72 hours leading up to Monday. Israel attributes civilian casualties to Hamas's use of densely populated areas for military operations, while Hamas accused Israel of indiscriminate bombardment of residential neighborhoods.
Netanyahu vowed that Israel’s offensive would continue until Hamas is defeated. The group, however, has rejected calls for disarmament. Israel’s operations are also focused on securing the release of the remaining hostages taken in Hamas's October 2023 attack, which killed over 1,200 people and resulted in approximately 250 people being abducted. Over 53,000 Palestinians have died in the ongoing conflict, the majority of them civilians.
