Schumer Presents Bill to Bar Trump from Using Qatar’s Jet
The legislation, labeled the “Presidential Airlift Security Act of 2025,” aims to restrict the Department of Defense from allocating any resources toward purchasing, altering, upgrading, or maintaining planes that were previously in possession of foreign states or their agents for presidential travel use.
In a written statement, Schumer criticized Trump, asserting, "Donald Trump has shown time and again – he will sell out the American people and the Presidency if it means filling his own pockets."
He stressed that making the aircraft safe for presidential use would cost billions in public funds and even then, could not be rendered entirely secure.
Schumer added, "It is now on the Senate to prioritize our national security, protect Americans, and ensure that a foreign-owned plane never gets the call sign ‘Air Force One.’"
The proposed measure follows Trump’s announcement during a recent Middle East trip, where he indicated he would accept the Boeing 747-8 from Qatar as the next official presidential jet.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump defended the decision, stating, "Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country."
In response, several Democratic Senators raised concerns last week, warning that Trump’s willingness to accept the foreign aircraft presents a "dangerous opportunity to exploit for foreign intelligence agencies and adversaries seeking to do harm" to the United States.
