Russia imposes USD93,000 LGBTQ propaganda fine on Apple
(MENAFN) A Moscow court imposed a fine of 7.5 million rubles ($93,000) on Apple for breaching Russian laws related to LGBTQ propaganda. The company was accused of violating Article 6.21 of Russia’s Administrative Violations Code, which prohibits the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations, gender reassignment, and child-free ideologies online. The court found Apple guilty of three administrative violations, each carrying a fine of more than $30,000. This case stemmed from the distribution of a TV series on Apple’s streaming platform that featured content promoting non-traditional sexual relations. The hearing was conducted behind closed doors due to confidential company information.
Over the past decade, Russia has enforced stricter regulations against LGBTQ-related content, extending the ban from minors to adults in 2022. In a separate ruling, Apple was also fined more than $37,000 for not removing illegal content, including the Nazi book ‘Mein Kampf,’ from its Apple Books app.
