Senate Minority Leader Introduces Bill Blocking Trump from Using Qatari Jet
(MENAFN) Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer introduced legislation Monday aimed at preventing President Donald Trump from utilizing a luxury jet reportedly offered by Qatar as the next Air Force One.
The proposed bill, dubbed the "Presidential Airlift Security Act of 2025," would prohibit the Department of Defense from allocating any funds for the acquisition, modification, restoration, or maintenance of aircraft previously owned by foreign governments or their representatives for presidential airlift purposes.
In a statement, Schumer asserted, "Donald Trump has shown time and again – he will sell out the American people and the Presidency if it means filling his own pockets." He further elaborated on concerns regarding the plane's suitability, stating, "Not only would it take billions of taxpayer dollars to even attempt to retrofit and secure this plane, but there’s absolutely no amount of modifications that can guarantee it will be secure. It is now on the Senate to prioritize our national security, protect Americans, and ensure that a foreign-owned plane never gets the call sign ‘Air Force One.'"
This legislative action follows Trump's recent remarks during a Middle East visit, where he indicated a willingness to accept the Boeing 747-8 aircraft to serve as the next Air Force One. On his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, "Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country."
Last week, a coalition of Senate Democrats voiced concerns that Trump's public announcement regarding the aircraft presented a "dangerous opportunity to exploit for foreign intelligence agencies and adversaries seeking to do harm" to the United States.
