Russia investigates WWII honorary statues destruction
Russian detectives made a statement on Wednesday that they were investigating 167 similar incidences across the area. Aleksandr Pakhtusov, a senior official in the Committee’s division for crimes of war, mass murder, and the exhumation of Nazism, said the list of suspects includes members of national parliaments and regional governmental figures.
Pakhtusov stated “in our work, we are guided by national legislation and the decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal”. Additionally, he said that international arrangements require neighboring roles to safeguard this kind of honorary statues.
Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova mentioned Poland for instance to refer to this action. She stated that an intergovernmental deal one time preserved roughly 570 honorary locations there. However, “now, only a few dozen remain untouched and in their original state.”
